Visarc develops bespoke business intelligence tool for Hyundai Capital UK

 

Having already worked with Hyundai Capital UK to create several Umbraco websites and a well-received intranet solution, Visarc was commissioned to design and develop a new HUB (a bespoke business intelligence platform) to support the company’s business development managers (BDMs) with the automotive retailer networks of Hyundai and Kia. Hyundai Capital UK is a joint venture between Santander Consumer UK and Hyundai Capital Services Korea.  Established in 2012 it provides retail finance solutions for Hyundai, Kia and Genesis Finance brands for the purchase of motor vehicles.

Hyundai Capitals UK's BDMs work closely with their dealer partners to deliver against specific business KPIs, such as number of proposals accepted, funded cases and new car finance penetration rate. Beyond performance reporting, the team at Hyundai Capital wanted to extend the remit of their previous solution to include bulletins, compliance management and top line usage data for the e-learning solution also built by Visarc.

On receiving the brief, our experienced digital team determined that the project would require bespoke development work due to the nature of data involved and very specific process requirements on the client side.

Built using the .NET framework, with deep integration with Microsoft Power BI, The HUB is a secure web-based business intelligence platform for BDMs that lets Hyundai Capital UK view dealer data from multiple sources. Each BDM within the company is responsible for multiple automotive dealers for Kia or Hyundai brands. Data is pulled daily into The HUB’s data warehouse via a combination of APIs, direct database connections and flat files, providing the BDMs with up-to-date insights on how their partners are performing.  

Data is available at retailer, territory, brand, and national level to BDMs and the head office team, who can interrogate and dissect the data at will. A significant amount of time went into devising a user interface which is intuitive and allows the BDMs to visualise data previously presented via many disparate tables and spreadsheets. 

Going way beyond the off-the-shelf business intelligence functionality from the likes of IBM Cognos or Microsoft Power BI, The HUB enables BDMs to write retailer reports, as well as create actions for the retailer before their next review. This information is shared securely with the retailer and logged within the system for full reporting of all activity. Head office has access to all reports and can apply actions to retailers too.

In some cases, ready-made solutions can be customised to cost effectively deliver against objectives, but more often than not - particularly for larger projects- there is no substitute for a tailor-made approach. The success of The HUB project proves that that our agency’s commitment to bespoke software development using the .NET framework delivers sustainable business value for our clients. The HUB takes a large amount of sales performance data from multiple sources and brings it together in one place using an intuitive, on-brand user interface that makes significant use of charts and other visual elements to more effectively present analysis of performance data.  

There is no single solution on the market that can aggregate all the data used by Hyundai Capital UK across their retail brands (Hyundai Finance and Kia Finance) and present it in an interactive and user-friendly way. The proprietary sources of data are too diverse, they are only accessible behind firewalls and require significant sanitisation before being used. 

The HUB now serves a network of 362 car retailers, 50 internal staff and 16 BDMs and has become the key business intelligence solution across the business enabling BDMs to work more efficiently than ever before with their car retail partners. Its success has resulted in an ongoing investment and expansion of functionality with future expansion planned.
